Here are the headlines of Sophie news this month!!
1) Sophie has just started giving kisses!! She opens her mouth and leans towards your face. She hasn't mastered the actual 'kiss' part yet, but just plants her drooly lips somewhere on your face!! I guess we'll have to keep practicing :)
2) Sophie has now started showing strong preferences for certain books. If I'm reading her one book, she will basically nose dive into the pile of books to uncover her desired book. Currently her favourite is 'Pat the Bunny'. She wants to read it over and over and over. ARRGGG --Paul and Judy are makin' me cwazy!! For those of you who have read that book, the 'Paul is smelling the flowers' page is doused with the most horrendously strong perfume! You can smell Paul's freakin' 'flowers' before you even open the book. Today I attempted to rip open that page and remove the scented insert---no easy task---the flowers are still there and the book looks like it's a tad worse for the wear.
3) Crawling progress-- getting there bit by bit. Sophie will now pivot around, and will move backwards. She hasn't quite figured out how to get in forward gear yet. The closest she'll come is to take two little steps (one knee each) forward. She's also starting to show us her yoga moves. She will do both downward and upward dogs---she's very advanced for her age (hee hee) I'm enjoying my last few moments of being able to sit still, because as soon as she's mobile, I have a feeling I won't be sitting down for a few years.
4) Peek-a-boo! Sophie's first game :) She will lift up various things--i.e. her bib, blanket, camera strap (that's the funniest one!!) and then drop it down and wait for our loud 'peekaboo'! She does it over and over again.
5) Sophie isn't signing, but is beginning to respond to some signs. When I sign milk, it produces a really big grin. Brett has been working on 'finished' and she will respond to that with him.
6) She has started cocking her head to one side and then the other. She leans WAYY down- It's almost as though she wants to look at things upside down. It's really funny....except if you're not holding on tight when she does it she might take a nosedive when she leans.
7) Squirmy Wormy on the changetable. She can manage to flip over her contour pad like it's nothing. Changing diapers now requires a 'plan' that involves speed, distraction, and reflexes!
8) Games with Spittle--you heard me, spit. Raspberries, drool, spitting out water and laughing...you name it, she's doin' it.
9) Babblehead--lots of sounds---some super high pitched squeals (all the neighbourhood dogs love it), and lots of other da-da-da, ba-ba-ba....you get the idea.
10) Sophie is now part of an iron-aborption study being conducted at a local hospital. When they tested 15 month olds at our dr.s office last year, a really high number (I can't remember!!) were low-iron. We are now going to be starting to try and increase Sophie's protein and variety of foods. Pureed meat, tofu and fish- here we come (gulp!) At 15 months she will have a blood test to determine her iron levels.

Hey Karen,
The signing will come!! Kai did more first and then milk. Now at two he does too many to count animals, furniture, toys, and names.
It is really cool to see. He enjoys the TV show Signing Time PBS he picks up tons from that!
Keep it up!!
She sounds like she's doing great. Lots of fun at that age, other than the diaper changing challenges and the stinky books! :o) Enjoy every minute, it keeps getting better every day doesn't it? Sounds like you're having a great time with the little sweetie pie.
