We have flown the coop!
We left on Wednesday to spend 3 or four days at Brett's family cottage. The drive is 5 hours, and no simple task with two little ones. I went to the dollar store and bought some random toys and activities to keep them busy. They did a great job, having to stop only once for lunch in a small rural town. (When we stopped Clara ended up introducing us to a group of people who 'lived' at the motel behind the restaurant. Next thing you knew she was swimming in their blow up pool, Sophie was looking at their fish pond, and we were eating our lunch chatting with new people. Kinda neat. Kids help you discover new things and new places)
We arrived at Brett's cottage and met Grandpa Jim, Rheanne, Morgan and Quinn. We were all SOO happy to have arrived. We spent the next few days playing playing playing. The kids had a blast together, and got along really well, and it almost felt like a break with the kids so happily amused. We hadn't seen Brett's dad and Rheanne since they moved to Bermuda in December, so it was nice to get caught up. I will upload some pictures, but won't be able to do that until we get back home, because I forgot my video card.
The weather wasn't great, but we still had lots of beach time, and enjoyed trading in our usual UV suits for the 'nudey' variety in the overcast weather. One afternoon Sophie, Morgan and Clara spent easily two hours puttering on the beach making a HUGE sandcastle with Brett (while I sat and gloriously read the Globe and Mail in a chaise lounge...heaven!)
We left yesterday for the next leg of our trip---to another smallish town where Brett will be working on a show for the next three weeks. Gulp. The place we are staying, whose tagline is 'like a hotel' needed a little 'TLC' when we first arrived. But Brett rearranged things, so that we have a little playroom/ Clara's bedroom. We stocked up on groceries, got some other things we had forgotten, so we're all set.
I am somewhat apprehensive about the next three weeks. Brett will be working, a LOT, and so I'm going to have be creative about finding lots of interesting things to do in the city.
The girls both have colds, which is making things grumpier and more challenging than normal. Of course Sophie's breathing is now flaring up, which makes me a bit of a stress case. Luckily, we're right next to the city's hospital!! Literally, a five minute walk. If the weather is nice then we'll spend lots of time at the beach!! Fingers crossed.
